Denise Harrison
My work focusses on the landscape and its emulation of nature. I am particularly interested in eco-systems and conservation spaces that are hidden or discovered on walks, my interaction with the landscape.
My paintings aim to bring attention to these spaces and the work that is or is not being done to maintain sustainability.
It’s important for me that I spend time in every environment I paint.
I submerge myself in these spaces and gather visual information via photography, sketches, found objects, research and psychogeography. I then take all this information back to my studio where I explore the image further through paint.
It is the materiality of the paint that excites me, lending itself to exploring the image further through the brush mark, colour and shape, capturing the essence of a place, not only visually, but the experience.
